Saved from the Abyss
This painting was created for an Ex-Voto exhibition at the Tubac Center of the Arts in Tubac, Arizona. An ex-voto is traditionally an offering given in gratitude—for protection, healing, or mercy received when it was needed most.
The image comes from a moment in my own life. After visiting my sons, I returned home carrying a heavy sense of regret and despair. Sitting alone, I felt myself sinking inward, as if the ground beneath me were giving way.
In that moment, something changed. I became aware of Yeshua’s presence—not as an idea, but as something immediate and compassionate. It felt as though He wrapped His arms around my heart and lifted me out of that darkness.
This painting is my offering of thanks. Not an explanation, but a remembrance of grace arriving when I could not find my way on my own.
An offering of gratitude for the mercy that meets us at the edge and leads us back to light.
