Watermelon Man II

$3,135.00Price
  • When I was 7 or 8 my family lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a time. It is hot in Tulsa in the summertime. So, in the evenings we would go down to a watermelon stand with tables under an awning. I remember the strings of twinkling lights that lit up the tables and all the little bugs flitting around. When you purchased a watermelon, a big man wielding a very big knife would pull one out of a large trough of ice water and cut it for us. No better way to cool off after a long, hot day.

When I was a poor starving artist in Seattle in the '70s, a friend's dad purchased many of my paintings including this one. The years passed by and I had long forgotten I painted this one until one day a man contacted me about it. He had purchased this from my friend a long time ago, and because he was moving to the east coast, he needed to downsize his art collection. So this piece came back to me. Why I painted 2 Watermelon Men is long forgotten, but I am happy to see it again!

This original is now available here.  It is 43" x 49", acrylic on canvas.
