This 43" x 49" painting holds the essence of a childhood summer—hot Tulsa evenings, a simple watermelon stand glowing under strings of twinkling lights, and the man with the big knife pulling ice-cold melons from a trough.
Years later, this piece took on a life of its own, sold to a collector before vanishing from my memory. Then, decades later, it found its way back to me, returned by someone who had cherished it for years.
Why I painted two Watermelon Men is a mystery even to me, but I’m glad this one has come home.
