Joshua

Making art, for me, is a process of discovery. I never want to know exactly where a painting will take me when I start. With a piece like 'Joshua', I knew I was painting a male figure, but I had no idea who he would become until the last brushstroke was down.

The name came later. Something about this face—his presence, his expression—reminded me of a Biblical figure. But which one? That’s for you to decide. Is it Joshua, the warrior and leader of the Old Testament? Or is it Yeshua—Jesus—whose name is also Joshua?

I’ll leave that up to your imagination.
