Mount Lemmon Dawn
"Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure and spontaneous pleasures are ‘patches of Godlight’ in the woods of our experience." ~C.S. Lewis
This painting is a composite of multiple visits to Mount Lemmon, a sky island above the Sonoran Desert just north of Tucson, Arizona. The place is a haven where the land and sky seem to converse, and each visit leaves a lasting imprint.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the essence of that conversation—the synergy of the physical and spiritual—when the morning light gently spills over the rugged landscape. It’s the kind of light that feels like a touch from something divine.
At 61" x 45", this watercolor on paper brings to life a dawn that’s alive with both the beauty of nature and the quiet reverence of something greater, a reflection of the deep connection between land and sky.
