A Creative Journal for Creative Minds

Before a single mark is made, creativity begins in stillness—those quiet moments when an idea rises and asks to be seen. A Creative Journal for Creative Minds was created for those moments.

These pages are a place to pause, to listen, and to respond. A sketch. A line. A sudden color. Whatever you leave here becomes part of your unfolding story—evidence of the way you see and the way you grow.

And one day, when you turn back through these pages, you may find that this wasn’t only a journal at all. It became a record of who you were becoming along the way.

I made this journal for artists, dreamers, and seekers—anyone who feels the pull to look inward, to reflect deeply, and to let creativity lead them forward.

Description of the Project

This book is a gathering of work that spans nearly six decades—paintings created between 1966 and 2026. Each image is a visual prayer, a moment of stillness, a search for what lies beneath the surface of things. The subjects vary—landscapes, saints, Indigenous figures, desert storms—but the thread that runs through them all is a deep reverence for creation, and the seen and unseen.

Painting has always been a way for me to listen. Sometimes I’m drawn to a sky at the last light of day, or the silent dignity of a Native elder. Other times, I find myself compelled by the presence of the sacred in the ordinary. I don’t paint to make statements; I paint to follow a thread of mystery, and this book is a way of sharing that journey with others.

There’s no single theme here, except perhaps love—love of land, love of Spirit, love of the resilience I’ve witnessed in people over time. These works carry the marks of many places I’ve lived or passed through, and the every day and the spiritual encounters I’ve had along the way.

This collection isn’t meant to be a retrospective in the traditional sense. It’s more of a living archive—a record of what has moved me, shaped me, and held me in wonder. I hope, as you turn these pages, that you’ll feel some of that wonder too.

This book is a collaboration with my wife, Susanne Reed, Ph.D., who lovingly archived my art, recorded me talking about art, and compiled, wrote, and edited the book.
